What if Ex-Presidents Ran Companies? Meet Disney CEO Bill Clinton.

Which companies are former presidents best suited to run?

Jamie Dimon, Bob Iger, Mike Bloomberg, Howard Schultz, Carly Fiorina, and many more. There’s always talk about some CEO running for president—or one taking the plunge. You never hear speculation about former presidents becoming CEOs.

I understand that, practically speaking, this probably isn’t going to happen. But indulge me in high-summer whimsy as I match ex-presidents to private-sector posts.

Let’s start with Jimmy Carter, who many said made a better ex- than sitting president. This speaks in part to the decades of inspiring work the now 98-year-old Carter has done for Georgia-based Habitat for Humanity. Ergo, wouldn’t Carter have been perfect as CEO of home builders like KB Home (ticker: KBH), Toll Brothers (TOL), or Lennar (LEN)?

Another idea for Carter would be to run home-state Aflac (AFL). I’d love to see him in a commercial with the duck—and Nick Saban!

George W. Bush would make the most sense as a CEO, since he’s the only president with an M.B.A. (Harvard Business School, class of 1975). W was also an executive in the oil business for a time, so why not be CEO of Exxon Mobil (XOM). (Remember, Rex Tillerson vacated his job as CEO at Exxon to become Donald Trump’s Secretary of State—for a while.)

Another idea for Bush, a former owner of the Texas Rangers: commissioner of baseball. From America’s CEO to presiding over America’s pastime sounds about right.

Barack Obama loves nothing more than making and posting playlists and book lists, so I’m thinking Netflix (NFLX) would be a good fit. Oh, wait, Barack and Michelle already have a deal with Netflix. So, how about Amazon.com (AMZN)? Obama is a basketball guy, too, so maybe he and Michael Jordan—to whom Barack conferred the Presidential Medal of Freedom—could buy the Chicago Bulls, now that MJ has sold the Charlotte Hornets. Another option for Obama: CEO of Hawaiian Airlines.

As for Donald Trump, he could do what he’s doing now—run the Trump Organization.

For Bill Clinton, I’m thinking Las Vegas, but it’s a bit of a backwater for him. How about a job somewhat adjacent—like Walt Disney (DIS)? Sure, Bob Iger is there, but mostly to transition the company and to find his successor. Movies, theme parks, ESPN, ABC, cruise ships, and international—that’s perfect for Clinton. And seriously, I bet he could do the job.

Finally, an idea if Ronald Reagan were still with us. How about as an arbiter to settle the screenwriters and actors strike? The Gipper has history here. True, he broke the air-traffic controllers union in that 1981 strike, so that’s a negative. But he was president of the Screen Actors Guild—twice, in fact. Could you imagine Reagan, Bob Iger, and Fran Drescher at the negotiating table?
